Athletes must train in "multi-planes" to get better

To be an effective athlete, you must have the ability to move in different "planes". Simply put, you must have the ability to be able to move forward, side to side, back wards, spinning, up and down while performing athletic actions.

So train this way too! Perform "ordinary" drills such as high knees and butt kicks in these different planes to get used to moving in multiple planes. Check out the drills in the video below and incorporate them into your "multi-plane" workouts.
